Released via Basement Murder, this highly anticipated reissue brings together ACTUM INFERNI and GNIEW — two distinct projects masterminded by the same singular visionary, Draconis (famed for his work in the cult-classic Polish black metal band Plaga).
Spanning a compact yet devastating 20 minutes and 31 seconds, this split is a masterclass in contrasting dynamics. The music of both bands shares the unmistakable DNA of Plaga: a highly unique, freezing, and emotional style of black metal that is instantly recognizable. What sets this split apart is its brilliant, organic incorporation of classic British heavy metal influences. Imagine the raw, aggressive tempos of the Polish second wave fused with soaring, triumphant guitar leads and solos reminiscent of Iron Maiden at their peak. While many bands attempt this delicate crossover with awkward results, Draconis executes it flawlessly, weaving absolute savagery with elegant, memorable hooks.
The first half belongs to Actum Inferni’s “W cieniu ramion krucyfiksu”, a blistering, fast-paced onslaught driven by the relentless, world-class blast beats of session drummer Krzysztof Klingbein. The second half shifts into Gniew’s mid-tempo monolith, “Pod batutą śmierci (Klątwa diabelskiego maszkarona)”, a heavy-grooved track that forces head-nodding abandon. Both sides are crowned by penetrating, wild, and incredibly raw vocals that inject the music with a feral, untamed energy. Together, they create one of the most expressive, balanced, and memorable splits in the modern Polish underground.
