AZARATH – Blasphemers’ Maledictions: The Zenith of Polish Extremity
Originally released in 2011, “Blasphemers’ Maledictions” is widely considered one of the most crushing albums in the history of Polish extreme metal. This 2021 re-release through Agonia Records brings back the long-out-of-print masterpiece with a refreshed layout, new cover art, and a bonus Damnation cover.
Featuring Inferno (Behemoth) behind the drum kit, Azarath transcends the “side-project” label, delivering a performance that out-guns and out-classes most of the contemporary scene. The album is a sheer display of ferocity, heaviness, and technical craftsmanship. It is a highly aggressive call to arms, fueled by anti-religious fervor and a relentless bloodthirstiness.
Sound and Influence
Imagine the twisted, heaving riffage of early Morbid Angel combined with the pure armageddon of De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas-era Mayhem. Add the relentless, pummeling attack characteristic of Vader and Behemoth, and you have a complete picture of Azarath. The atmosphere recalls the blackened orthodoxy of bands like Watain and Deathspell Omega, making this album a timeless pillar of the genre.
