Following their raw, doom-laden debut Diabolical Fullmoon Mysticism, Pure Holocaust saw Immortal dramatically increase the velocity, creating a suffocatingly fast, hyper-blasting wall of sound. This is the first album to feature the legendary frontman Abbath Doom Occulta handling the battery on drums, driving the band’s signature freezing riffs into a state of pure, chaotic motion. Instead of Satanic cliches, the lyrics here are entirely consumed by the grim fantasy landscapes of Blashyrkh — a mythical realm of endless ice, biting snowstorms, and majestic winter battles.

From the iconic opening battery of “Unsilent Storms in the North Abyss” to the frostbitten anthems “The Sun No Longer Rises” and “As the Eternity Opens”, every single track on this album is a masterclass in atmospheric extremity. Demonaz’s razor-sharp, tremolo-picked guitar work cuts through the mix like a glacial wind, while Abbath’s venomous croak rasps with the authority of the Norse hordes. The album reaches its freezing climax with the devastating title track, “Pure Holocaust”.
