IN THE WOODS… – Heart of the Ages CD (Soulseller Records)
Step into the ancient, mystical realms of Norwegian metal history with the official reissue of Heart of the Ages, the legendary 1995 debut masterpiece by pagan/avant-garde black metal pioneers IN THE WOODS…. Released on CD via Soulseller Records, this album is a monumental, colossal, and majestic journey into the dark depths of the northern wilderness.
The origins of In The Woods… are deeply tied to the early Norwegian underground. The project originally formed out of the death metal band Green Carnation, which went on hiatus after main composer and guitarist Tchort left to play bass for the legendary Emperor. The remaining members channelled their creative energy into In The Woods…, releasing a highly praised demo in 1993 before unleashing this groundbreaking debut album in 1995.
Heart of the Ages stands as a timeless pillar of pagan black metal, smelling of ancient myths and eternal, deep forests. It seamlessly blends raw black metal aggression with melancholic atmospheres, clean operatic vocals, progressive structures, and a haunting, otherworldly aura. This essential reissue also features bonus tracks, including an eerie cover of Jefferson Airplane’s “White Rabbit” and a live-in-studio version of “Mourning the Death of Aase”.
