Recorded on June 21, 1997, at the East Club Hangar in Bischofswerda, Germany, this concert captures Mayhem at a critical turning point. With the legendary “Wolf’s Lair Abyss” EP about to be unleashed, the formidable and freshly assembled lineup of Hellhammer, Necrobutcher, Maniac, and Blasphemer (with additional guitar on “Freezing Moon” by Nordgaren) set out to prove that the spirit of true black metal was more dangerous than ever.
Remastered directly from the soundboard mixer console signal by Tom Kvålsvoll at Kvalsonic Lab, this release preserves the authentic, raw, and aggressive energy of the night. While the audio is mostly decent to good, certain sections (such as “Ancient Skin” and “Buried by Time and Dust”) reflect the raw limitations of 90s live recordings—retained here in all their honest, devastating grit. This is a vital, uncompromising audio document of a dark past.
This premium physical edition comes as a jewelcase CD with a clear tray and a massive 18-page folded booklet. The booklet is filled with rare, authentic live photographs by Ann-Jonette “AnnaConda” Friberg, alongside exclusive liner notes and quotes from the band members themselves.
