On Beyond the Apocalypse, the musicianship reaches mind-blowing heights of speed, precision, and violent passion. Frontman Ravn delivers pitch-black, dry, and hostile vocals that sound like a voice calling from a dead world. Guitarists Tjalve and Archaon weave a suffocating blizzard of memorable, razor-sharp riffs, while bassist Seidemann pulses beneath, completing the colossal wall of sound. Driving the storm is legendary drummer Frost (Satyricon), who pounds relentlessly, pushing his physical limits to deliver some of the fastest, most exhausting blast beats ever recorded in the genre.
The album is a cohesive, nightmarish journey designed to be experienced from start to finish. From the blistering, chaotic opening of “Chasing Dragons” and the complex, crushing title track, to the cult-favorite anthems “Aiwass-Aeon”, “Blood Is the Mortar”, and the apocalyptic, razor-sharp closer “The Blade”, 1349 crafts a world of pure chaos, war, and ancient shadows.
Visually, the release is immortalized by its haunting cover photography, captured by the legendary Peter Beste (famed for his iconic portraits of Gorgoroth and Nattefrost).
