AETERNUS – Philosopher: The Return of Norwegian Dark Metal
Formed in Bergen in 1993 by Ares, Aeternus pioneered the unique genre known as Dark Metal. Their trademark sound—a complex layering of superlative guitar work and melodic, atmospheric interludes—seamlessly blends the aggression of Black and Death Metal with subtle folk and classical undertones. “Philosopher” stands as a testament to their 30-year legacy of darkness.
The current line-up brings together elite musicians from the Norwegian scene, featuring current and former members of Gorgoroth, Immortal, and Gaahls Wyrd. This wealth of experience translates into a mature, crushing, and intellectually provocative extreme metal release.
Production Excellence
The album was recorded, produced, and mixed at the renowned Conclave and Earshot Studios (famous for working with Immortal and Enslaved) by Herbrand Larsen. Mastering was handled by Lawrence Mackrory at Rorysound Studio (Bloodbath, Vomitory), ensuring a massive and crystal-clear sonic experience. The striking cover artwork and layout were crafted by the acclaimed artist Mar.A. (Cultes Des Ghoules, Deus Mortem).
