Upon its initial release, “Ond Spiritism” found Armagedda amongst the first furtive movements of the “spiritual black metal” idiom. Taking root in the wake of foundational works by Antaeus, Watain, and Deathspell Omega, this album pushed the boundaries of traditionalism into darker, more esoteric territories.

Although the band originally planned to depart further from black metal’s shackles, “Ond Spiritism” ultimately proved to be their final statement. Following its release, the two primary members pursued various influential projects, including LIK, Lönndom, Whirling, and Saiva. Today, the album remains a cult classic and a mandatory piece for any serious collector of Swedish extreme metal.

From the chilling opening of “Helvetestoner” to the finality of “Utfärd”, the album delivers a raw yet deeply spiritual atmosphere. It captures a moment in time when Swedish black metal was evolving into something more profound and sinister.
