MOONBLOOD – Once There Was Darkness
Cult Evil German Black Metal!!! Moonblood continues their relentless
excavation of early underground history with Once There Was Darkness. This release
captures the band’s unofficial 6th Rehearsal, originally recorded in the dead of winter
in January 1996 — a period when the German Black Metal scene was at its most feral and uncompromising.
For this 2023 release via
Misanthrophia Discos,
the material has been professionally restored directly from the original master tape and specially mastered
for CD. Clocking in at an epic 56 minutes, this rehearsal captures Moonblood delivering a massive,
sprawling, and deeply atmospheric sonic assault.
The 8-track journey is a masterclass in raw, unfiltered extremity. Standout moments include the sprawling
title track, the vicious Night of Crimson Fire Storms, the vampiric atmosphere of Nosferatu,
and a monumental, faithful cover of Bathory’s epic “Enter the Eternal Fire” — a testament
to Moonblood’s deep reverence for the forefathers of the genre. The cold, raw production perfectly serves
the eerie, wintery atmosphere that defines the band’s legendary status.
A mandatory acquisition for collectors of cult German Black Metal, raw rehearsal tapes, and the true,
uncompromising underground spirit.
