Released on jewelcase CD via Soulseller Records in 2023, this is an essential historical document capturing the unmatched, unique atmosphere of mid-nineties Norwegian extremity.

Founded by Grusom (aka Galder) in 1993 alongside then co-conspirators Aldrahn of Dødheimsgard, Brynjard Tristan, and Silenoz of Dimmu Borgir, Old Man’s Child created something truly magical from its very birth. In the Shades of Life breathes the frostbitten, melancholic spirit of the era across its original seven tracks—from the haunting “St. Aidens Fall” to the chilling “…og jeg iakttok dødsrikets inntog”—and features a raw, primal rendition of Slayer’s “Black Magic”.

This official reissue proudly presents the artwork of the 1996 CD edition as created by Shagrath (Dimmu Borgir) for Hot Records, complete with lyrics and early photographs properly documenting what once was. Pictures were provided by Tjodalv, while the original DAT master tape was sourced directly from Grusom (Galder) himself. As a bonus, the two tracks from the 1996 sessions—previously released on the 1997 Hot Records compilation “The Rape of the Holy Trinity”—are included, making this a true gem not to be missed.
