INFERNAL WAR – Conflagrator CD (digipak)
Conflagrator is a devastating EP from Polish Black/Death Metal force
Infernal War. Recorded back in winter 2006
but not released until 2009, this mini-album features music that ranks among the most brutal and best in the band’s entire discography.
The band draws from the most extreme influences in the genre — Angelcorpse, Morbid Angel (albums 1-3), Marduk, Dark Funeral —
and transforms them into their own merciless style with even greater ruthlessness, considerable finesse and appropriate melodicism.
While the black metal components take a step back compared to Redesekration…, elements such as precision,
technical riffs, insane speeds and furious vocals come to the fore with devastating effect.
In less than 20 minutes, Conflagrator delivers an intensity that is extremely rare. This is not a wall of sound —
the quintet knows exactly when to place memorable melodies and fancy solos, including sweep-picked passages that would make
Trey Azagthoth himself go amok. Slower, spine-chilling motifs appear at just the right moments, and industrial inserts
provide brief breaths before the brutality of blast beats resumes. All five tracks reflect this mastery at a level
that even surpasses their inspirations.
If you can’t get enough of Black/Death savagery, Conflagrator is definitely for you.
The only apparent flaw — the modest volume of the release — evaporates the moment you play it again.
This is an EP that makes you want to come back more and more often.
